Obama's Message

I realize that most of my posts on here focus on Hillary, and are overwhelmingly negative. I wish it didn't have to be so negative, but she keeps doing and saying negative things, things that hurt the Democratic Party, things that hurt the country, and things that aren't fair to the voters. I feel that these things cannot be left unanswered, so in my blog I answer them.

Obama's message isn't at all negative, it is amazingly positive. No matter how much nasty stuff she does, he doesn't respond with negativity. He responds by rising above. He is a much better person than Hillary and McCain, and he is a bigger person than me. He can somehow brush it all off and rise above, he stays positive and refuses to play the typical Washington game. I don't have that sort of control, if I see something that is wrong, I have to take it head on, and I typically do so aggressively. Unfortunately I don't focus on the good or the positive enough, and I do so unapologetically, because I think someone must so that Hillary, McCain and the Republicans don't get away with their lies and dirty tactics, but it isn't a very good representation of what Obama's campaign is all about. And that isn't to say that Obama's approach isn't effective, because it is amazingly effective, but I think there has to be people in the trenches fighting for the truth, fighting the individual battles, while Obama sets the mood and the focus at the macro level. It is a constant battle of information, of lies, misrepresentations and distorts versus the truth, honesty and facts...and no candidate can focus on every little lie or attack themselves, they have a national campaign to run, with big picture things to worry about.

Anyway, my point in all this is that despite how negative much in this blog tends to be (and necessarily so, by virtue of the nature of our opponents), behind all this is an amazing campaign with a positive message of hope and change, one that represents how politics ought to be.

I guess what I'm trying to say is that if you want to know why you should vote for Obama, just listen to Obama. If you want to know why you shouldn't vote for Hillary, you'll find plenty of that on this blog. Perhaps if I didn't have to spend all of my time keeping up with her lies and attacks I could focus more on the good, but regrettably that hasn't been how she has ran her campaign. And it is fine for people to know why they shouldn't vote for Hillary, but I'd hate for people to lose focus of why they should vote for Obama. This isn't one of those times when we have a choice between the lesser of two evils. For the first time in decades (or perhaps even much longer) we actually have a great candidate who deserves our support, and could really help us change this country for the better.

Here is Obama's closing at the Jefferson-Jackson dinner in North Carolina last night. It is a great articulation of his message and why he is in this race, and why he has chosen to run his campaign the way he has, instead of how his opponents (Hillary and McCain) have ran theirs. Enjoy:

I really hope one day our politics can be positive.
