Yesterday Democratic Louisiana state Rep. Don Cazayoux beat his Republican opponent in a special election for Louisiana's 6th district. This was a solidly Republican district (hasn't had a Democrat representing it for over three decades), making this the second special election in the last few months that the Democrats have been able to take from the Republicans in what should have been easy wins for the Republicans. The first was Bill Foster in Illinois, with the help of Barack Obama.
I should also note that the GOP tried to defeat Cazayoux by conflating him with Obama and other "radical" Democrats. As I said when I first learned about these tactics, the Republicans will find connecting any candidate to Obama is doing that candidate a big favor. Obama will probably be the second best thing we have going for our congressional chances in November, the very best thing is the Republicans' own incompetence.
This does not bode well for the Republicans in November. I know I'm dreaming of supermajorities in both houses of Congress.
Welcome aboard US Rep. Don Cazayoux!
