Hillary has yet another (3rd) ad in Indiana "hitting" Obama on not supporting the McCain-Bush-Hillary gas tax pander scheme/$10 billion handout to oil companies. In the ad she says "He'd make you keep paying that tax, instead of big oil", which is a giant lie, because big oil gets $10 billion out of the deal, and the difference in tax revenue to the highway administration will be made up through general funds, meaning it will further increase our deficit, and tax payers will just foot the bill on the back side. And what is the estimated payoff to consumers at the pump? $18 if they drive a lot, but probably less than $10 for most drivers, for the entire summer. But Hillary and McCain are targeting low-information voters with this scheme, hoping they don't realize how little they will really get from it, and how much the oil companies will get, and how much damage it will do to infrastructure, jobs, energy conservation and the federal deficit.150 250 economists from all points in the spectrum have signed an open letter opposing the McCain-Bush-Hillary gas tax pander scheme/$10 billion handout to oil companies:
An Open Statement Opposing Proposals for a Gas Tax HolidayAnd here is what the plan will cost to the federal highway fund and construction job loses (click on image to view large version):
In recent weeks, there have been proposals in Congress and by some presidential candidates to suspend the gas tax for the summer. As economists who study issues of energy policy, taxation, public finance, and budgeting, we write to indicate our opposition to this policy. Put simply, suspending the federal tax on gasoline this summer is a bad idea and we oppose it.
There are several reasons for this opposition. First, research shows that waiving the gas tax would generate major profits for oil companies rather than significantly lowering prices for consumers. Second, it would encourage people to keep buying costly imported oil and do nothing to encourage conservation. Third, a tax holiday would provide very little relief to families feeling squeezed. Fourth, the gas tax suspension would threaten to increase the already record deficit in the coming year and reduce the amount of money going into the highway trust fund that maintains our infrastructure.
Signers of this letter are Democrats, Republicans and Independents. This is not a partisan issue. It is a matter of good public policy.
Signed,
Henry Aaron, Brookings Insitution
Gilbert Metcalf, Tufts University

Yet apparently Hillary's internal polling shows that the majority of people are eating up her lies, so she will keep lying, in hopes she can get some extra votes based on lies, just like she did in Ohio. By the time the people of Indiana figure out they were being played for fools it will be too late.
