The Dark Side Welcomes Hillary

"[Hillary's] become the Lieberman of the Democratic party." That was recently written in the conservative National Review, and it was meant as a good thing. Those paying attention in the last few months may have noticed that many hardcore Repubilcans have come to admire Hillary's campaign, admiring it as a reflection of their own values and disgraceful tactics:

She's running a right-wing campaign. She's running the classic Republican race against her opponent, running on toughness and use-of-force issues, the campaign that the elder George Bush ran against Michael Dukakis, that the younger George Bush waged in 2000 and then again against John Kerry, and that Ronald Reagan--'The Bear in the Forest'--ran against Jimmy Carter and Walter F. Mondale.

[...]

She might run to the right of McCain, if she makes it to the general election, and get the votes of rebellious conservatives. Or she, Lieberman, and McCain could form a pro-war coalition...
That was from the conservative Weekly Standard, saying the same things that I've been saying all along, although they come at it from a different angle--I'm trying to warn Democrats that Hillary is bringing the destructive policies and insidious tactics of the GOP to the Democratic Party, while the Republicans are salivating as they watch a leading Democrat turn more and more to the dark side.

Just pretend the Emperor is Dick Cheney, Darth Vader is Karl Rove, and Luke Skywalker is Hillary, only in reality Hillary is much more willing to turn to the dark side than Luke, indeed she embraces the dark side without any prodding at all:

Now I only hope when she comes up for reelection to the Senate in 2012 that we give her the Lieberman treatment, out on her ass with the rest of the Republican-Democrats.

I absolutely agree. I think the Rovian-tactics are despicable and beneath the democratic candidates. However on CNN, MSNBC you've got pundits such as Joe Scarborough and others complimenting and encouraging Hillary for going after Obama. On the other hand they are saying Obama needs to do likewise otherwise he looks wimpy. But what viewers probably do not know and/or if so they probably fail to associate that the talking-heads are "republicans" pretending to be "journalists."

The whole thing is ugly and sordid! But what can be done about it? I normally do not watch cable TV news (i cannot stand the yelling and talking over each other), however it is important to know what is being said and how it is (spun) said. I cringe every time they spin and distort what Obama stands for, his words and his positions. It is driving me up the wall.

It is frustrating as hell listening to the incessant chattering about meaningless, trivial nonsense dribble - Iam talking about CNN & MSNBC, not Fox which I absolutely refuse to listen to. Perhaps we could get them to change the narrative by boycotting their advertisers... But therein reaching the number of people required to pull that off is impossible.

I would not ascribe your writings "negative" regarding HRC. You are the messenger and Hillary happens to be your subject; it is her behaviour that is negative. Hillary's rovian antics and shenanigans are deplorable.

It was really pleasant -- a breath of fresh air -- reading your comments about what Obama achieved in Pennsylvania. The networks never comment on what he has achieved, just what he hasn't. No wonder the public votes as they do.

Corporate-owned "news" media are destructive and dangerous to open societies. After not watching the news shows for years, except off-and-on, I was unaware of just how much worse it has gotten. The media have been dumbing down Americans for decades, but exponentially so the day GW Bush took over the WH. Iam concerned about the future of ours and other open societies. Obama talks about the urgency of "now", but for some reason I doubt many really understand the depth of what he means (or what I presume he means).

Thank you for your kind words. I completely agree with you. I can't stand watching the pundits and the MSM "news" either, but at the same time I want to know what they are saying, it is an unfortunately place to be in, not wanting to know what they are saying but knowing that what they say carries weight with some, so inevitably you have to keep up on what they are saying. Keith Olbermann is pretty much the only one I will watch because he is the only one who will speak the truth. And Scarborough? Give me a break, they shouldn't let anyone have a television news show if they have been in Congress. Of course everything he says is anti-Obama, because he wants the Republicans to win, same thing with other idiots like Pat Buchanan, they just say whatever they have to say to help out their side, and the truth can be damned as far as they are concerned.

I just can't wait until this primary is over, it has gone on about 12 months too long.
