Here is something a little embarrassing for Hillary Clinton. Today's SurveyUSA poll shows that Obama is a stronger candidate against McCain, in NEW YORK, Hillary's HOME STATE!! Granted, they both can win here easily, but Obama actually does quite a bit better than Hillary. Obama's total spread is 21% (57% to 36%), while Hillary's is only 11% (52% to 41%). Ouch. Now that says something about electability.
To her credit though, another poll out today does show that there are two states she could carry against McCain in the general election. New Jersey is apparently somewhat safe for her (although, again, these don't take into account increased anti-Hillary Republican turnout) as she leads McCain 47% to 41%. Obama does about the same, 46% to 39%.
So there we go, Hillary can carry New York and probably New Jersey in the general election. Woo.
Update: But there is some more bad news for Hillary it turns out. While she has been busy trashing Obama all over the country, it turns out her approval rating at home has been falling:
SurveyUSA has tracked the job approval rating of Senator Hillary Rodham Clinton 35 times between May 2005 and February 2008. At no time had the percentage of New York adults approving of her job performance dipped below 60%; at no point had the percentage disapproving risen above 38%.
Today, however, Senator Clinton has a 56% approval rating and a 42% disapproval rating. Subtracting disapproval from approval yields a Net Job Approval of Plus 14 ... the lowest we’ve seen for Senator Clinton, who was at Plus 22 last month, and at Plus 37 in October.
Hmmm...maybe Hillary ought to spend a little less time trashing the Democratic Party's only chance at winning the White House and gaining seats in Congress, and a little more time tending to things at home...you know, like naming a few courthouses after people.
